Delta, Central and Jay County each came away with top-seeded competitors at Thursday’s Jay County boys swimming sectional preliminaries.
Delta’s Andrew Torres turned in the top preliminary times in the 50 freestyle (21.53) and the 100 butterfly (52.98). Torres was also on the Eagles’ 200 freestyle relay (1:29.57, with Jack Hart, Jared Hunt and Devyn Tarr) and 400 freestyle relay (3:23.32, with Josh Minch, Chandler Tucker and Hart) teams which also turned in the top times at Thursday’s preliminaries.
Tucker was also a top finisher, turning in a time of 5:04.20 in the 500 freestyle.
Central’s Alec Hale will be the top seed in the 200 freestyle, turning in a time of 1:50.67. Hale and teammates Cameron Ottinger, Cullen Tyler and Lucas Bradford swam a time of 1:42.14 in the 200 medley relay to claim the top seed in that event.
Jay County’s Sok Vormohr was the top finisher in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 49.80. Teammate James Keen earned the top seed in the 100 backstroke at 55.06.
Delta and Central have the most returning swimmers for Saturday’s finals. The Eagles have 15 swimmers returning for a combined 24 entries in individual events. They also qualified to return in all three relays. Central had 12 swimmers combine for 22 finals entries in individual events. The Bearcats will also be returning for all three relays.
