New Castle finished third at the Connersville Sectional Saturday, coming up with a team score of 99.700. The top three teams at each sectional advance to regionals, so the Trojans have qualified for Friday’s Columbus East Regional. Kierstyn Cochran guided New Castle, taking third in the all-around with a score of 35.375.
Cochran finished third on both vault and floor, logging a 9.350 on vault and a 9.125 on floor. She was fourth on beam (8.425) and fifth on bars (8.475). Teammate Olivia Malott finished sixth on vault at 8.650.
Central finished fourth with a team score of 95.825, missing regional qualification as a team by one spot. The Bearcats’ Clair Buchanan finished fifth in the all-around at 33.075, so she has qualified for regionals as an all-arounder, the only Bearcat to advance. Buchanan’s best individual event was the floor, where she finished tied for sixth at 8.650.
Jay County competed at the Fort Wayne Concordia Sectional, where it finished sixth with a score of 102.175. The Patriots’ Lizzy Schoenlein was sixth in the all-around at 35.975, so she advanced to Friday’s Huntington North Regional as an all-arounder. She was the only Patriot to qualify for regionals. Schoenlein’s best finish was on floor, where she finished fourth at 9.350. She also placed sixth on beam at 8.925.
