Heritage Hall had several chances to break a decades long streak without a title, reaching the past two IACS title games. But both times the Patriots fell short.
Saturday morning they earned a third trip the the final, and this time, they made good.
Heritage Hall used dominant defense to clinch its crown, taking down host Crosspointe Christian 63-46. The Patriots reached the title game with an 83-60 semifinal victory against Tabernacle Christian.
“It was a great finish to a great season,” Heritage Hall coach Mark McKee said. “We hadn’t won a state championship since the 85-86 season.
“It’s been a long time coming.”
Skyler Posey netted 21 points in the title game, with 15 from Brayden Karnes and 14 from Isaac McKee. The Patriots (19-1) held Crosspointe to 15 points in the first half and had it doubled up at the break. Crosspointe was the only team to beat Heritage Hall this season.
Karnes had 24 points in the semifinal, and Grant Prewitt added 20. Heritage Hall pulled away with a 24-8 second quarter.
