BASEBALL
Burris fell 3-1 to the Indy Kings. Nathan Grzesiek had a triple for the Owls, and Christian Combs had an RBI single.
Daleville held on for a 2-1 win against Central as Elliott Jackson and Spencer Horsley split the the pitching duties for the Broncos. Corbin Maddox had two hits for Daleville, and Central’s Hadden Yarbrough and Sam Cavanaugh each had two hits.
Monroe Central held on for a 10-9 season-opening win against Centerville. Nakya Brown and Logan Conklin each had a single and a double for the Golden Bears, with each player driving in two runs.
SOFTBALL
Wapahani picked up a 4-1 win against Northeastern. Kaija Aikman pitched a complete game for the Raiders, walking one batter and striking out five. Karli Conwell went 3-for-3 with a double, and teammate Katelyn Buchanan was 2-for-3 with a double. Blackford’s Addisyn Schick had a hit and drove in her team’s only run.
Jay County defeated Blackford 4-1. The Patriots’ Larissa Boles pitched a three-hitter in the circle and had a double at the plate.
Yorktown is ranked No. 7 in Class 3A in the Indiana Coaches of Girl Sports Association poll. New Castle (Class 4A) and Cowan (Class A) are receiving votes.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Wapahani’s Kambrey Jolley scored 14 points and Union’s Rylee Davis added seven in an 82-50 win for the Indiana team over Ohio in game one of the POSTYOURT.org all-star game series. New Castle’s Ryan Blankenship scored nine points in game four, a 100-69 win for Indiana.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Delta’s Kameron Slaven scored 10 points in game eight of the POSTYOURT.org all-star game series, as Indiana fell 86-79 to Ohio. Fellow Delta player Matt Norris scored nine points and another Eagle, Rylan Sullivan, added two points. Blue River’s Noah Brown played in game six of the series and did not score in a 94-89 Indiana win. Wes-Del’s Bryce Marsh and Samson Waters each played in game five and were held scoreless. Indiana fell 112-81 in game five.
