BASEBALL
Class 2A No. 4 Wapahani picked up a 9-5 win against Cambridge City and a 10-5 victory against Taylor to win the Wapahani Invite. Austin Martin went 5-for-7 with two doubles on the day to lead the Raiders. Taylor Shroyer connected for a double and a home run in the second game and had four RBIs. Kyzer York and Chandler Wise also hit home runs against Taylor. Jared Coats and Grant Thompson picked up the wins on the mound.
Central swept a doubleheader against Jay County, winning 6-3 and 8-7, with an eight-run fifth inning in the second game. Hadden Yarbrough and Xavier Cleaves each had three hits on the day for Central. Cole Stigleman had four hits for Jay County.
Delta was swept by Pendleton Heights, falling 10-8 and 12-5. Tanner Lambert was 3-for-7 for the Eagles on the day with two doubles and three RBIs. Teammate Adam Paschal went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the second game.
Blackford was swept by Hagerstown 10-1 and 5-3. Chase Mahan had four hits on the day for the Bruins.
Blue River swept Cowan, picking up wins by 8-3 and 7-6 scores. Tommy Vanhook had five hits, while Pete Wissel struck out 15 in a complete-game win. Isaiah Covington had four hits on the day for Cowan, and teammate Luke Miller went 3-for-8 with a home run and double.
Monroe Central split two games at the tournament it hosted, falling to Knightstown 12-1 before defeating Anderson Prep 11-1. Beau Combs pitched a complete game in the victory, striking out nine batters.
Burris fell 9-7 to South Dearborn in 10 innings Friday night. Nathan Grzesiek had 12 strikouts in the loss.
SOFTBALL
Delta split a doubleheader at Bluffton, falling to Homestead 12-6 before defeating Bluffton 13-3 in six innings. Angie Naaman pitched a complete game in the win, and had two doubles at the plate. Ericka Pursley also had two doubles, and Haille Workman connected for a home run.
Jay County got swept 19-6 and 14-3 by Lapel. Catherine Dunn had a pair of home runs on the day. Usual starter Larissa Boles didn’t pitch for the Patriots.
Yorktown defeated Hamilton Heights 7-4. Ashleigh Morrow and Katy Johnson each had two hits, including a double, for the Tigers.
Daleville was swept in the Monroe Central tournament, falling 12-0 to Hagerstown and 5-1 to Southern Wells. Kristen Zimmers had three hits on the day for the Broncos.
Blackford used a 10-run sixth inning to defeat Huntington North 12-2 on Friday. Hannah Simmons, Addisyn Schick, Maggie Weeks-Foy and Shannon Walker each had two hits for the Bruins.
Wes-Del swept a Mid-Eastern Conference doubleheader. against Cowan, winning 10-6 and 9-3. Mariah Berry had a double and a triple for the Warriors (5-10). Allie McCreery hit a home run for the Blackhawks (2-11).
BOYS TRACK
Central finished seventh at the Lime City Relays hosted by Huntington North with 34 points, as Fort Wayne Carroll won with 139 1/2 points. Michael Hill, Andre Wells, Keydrick Carter and Eliseus Young combined to finish third in the 800 sprint medley relay. Tariq Bell, Tacoma Archuleta, Jesse Privett and Javan Johnson combined to finish third in the 3,200 relay.
Monroe Central won the Northeastern Invitational on Friday with 139 points, and second-place Union County had 110. Marcus Drummer, Zaine Pollard-Kennedy, Jordan Grant and Justin Brown combined to win the 3,200 relay. Joshua Randall won both hurdle events, and Javarion Burtley won the long jump.
GIRLS TRACK
Monroe Central won the Northeastern Invitational on Friday with 149 points, and Randolph Southern was second at 110. Katarina DiBiasio won the 100, 200, 400 and long jump. Destiny Duncan won the discus.
GIRLS TENNIS
No. 9 Delta went 3-0 to win the invitational it hosted, including wins against No. 15 Bloomington South and No. 22 Fort Wayne Carroll. Yorktown went 2-1 (its only loss to No. 19 Hamilton Southeastern) and finished fifth. Delta’s Maggie Thompson went 3-0 at No. 2 singles. The Eagles won all 12 sets in their doubles matches, with Teaghan Dishman and Kaylin Gibson going undefeated at No. 1 doubles and Emily Decker and Sarah Ogle going undefeated at No. 2 doubles. Yorktown’s Kate Avila went 3-0 at No. 2 singles, and teammates Blair Smith and Laura Scanameo went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Central knocked off Huntington North 3-2 and lost 4-1 to Marion. Rebecca Hollowell had the lone win against the Giants, while Haley Osborne picked up a singles win against the Vikings.
