Mike Jones has stepped down as Winchester High School’s athletic director.
He will continue his position as Winchester’s football coach while returning to the classroom to teach U. S. History.
“It was a family decision and I did what was right,” Jones said. “Three things are important to me: Faith, family and football. … Happy to be football coach, excited to be able to teach again.”
Jones will enter his fourth year as Winchester’s football coach and the Falcons bring high expectations as Kiante Enis returns after shattering the school’s single season and career records in rushing yards and touchdowns.
He has committed to play at Michigan and finished close to Indiana’s single-season rushing yards record last fall.
Jones took over a team that went 1-9 in 2011 and led a turnaround to finish 6-5 the following season. He is 23-11 after three years as Winchester’s football coach, including a 10-2 mark last year and a trip to the Class 2A Sectional championship game.
“We have had a really good summer,” Jones said. “Excited for next Monday, the third (of August), to get here, I just think that we have a nice opportunity here at Winchester.”
