VOLLEYBALL
Class 3A No. 2 Yorktown rolled through its home invitational, sweeping four matches against top competition, while No. 3 Delta went 2-2. Kenzie Knuckles led the Tigers with 42 kills and Olivia Reed added 20. Audrey Woodin had 41 kills for Delta, and Chloe Stitt added 33 with nine aces and 17 digs.
No. 2 2A Wapahani hosted an invitational and went 3-0. The Raiders pulled a three-set victory out over Shenandoah, followed by a sweep against Adams Central before closing out the invitational with a three-set win over Homestead. Sky Van Note had 26 kills and two aces for the Raiders, and Lexi Spence guided the offense with 52 assists.
New Castle fell to Noblesville in five sets (25-20, 22-25, 26-24, 18-25, 20-18). Avarie Powell led the Trojans in kills with 27, while teammate Peighton Barber had 50 assists.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Delta’s Cade Orchard (19:59.61) and Yorktown’s Kevin Krantz (17:25.99) finished 1-2 in Division II of the Rushville Invitational, as the Tigers came in third and the Eagles fourth. In Divison I, New Castle’s Chris Graham came in seventh with a time of 17:50.69, leading the Trojans to a third-place finish behind Cathedral and Jennings County. Central’s Jesse Privett (17:52.13) came in eighth individually. In the smallest division Daleville’s David Dillon came in fourth with a time of 16:50.13, best among local individuals. As a team, Wapahani came in third in Division III, behind Hagerstown and Oldenburg Academy.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Yorktown and Delta took second and third in Division II of the Rushville Invitational, coming in behind Batesville. The Tigers’ Madeline Aul was the top local performer with a time of 20:58.04, seventh in her division. Burris’ Brittany Kent ran a 21:33.05 to come in third in Division III. New Castle’s Catherine Brock came in seventh in the top division by running a 21:28.97 as the Trojans were sixth in the team standings.
BOYS TENNIS
No. 7 Delta picked up two road wins, the first one against Shelbyville 5-0. The Eagles’ Nick Bantz and Jacob Brewer got the 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles. The second match pitted Delta against No. 16 Culver Military Academy, a rematch of last year’s state quarterfinals. The Eagles claimed the victory 4-1, with Joe Wegener earning the two-set win at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-4).
Burris lost to Westfield 5-0. The Owls’ Connor Kurek and Grant Ward earned three games at No. 1 doubles, while Calvin Shenk also earned three games at No. 3 singles.
Central placed third (1-2) and Jay County fourth (0-3) at the Central Invitational. The Bearcats’ Khamasi Muhiga was undefeated for the day at No. 1 singles.
BOYS SOCCER
Central opened North Central Conference play with a 3-1 win against Marion. Devon McNabb scored a pair for the Bearcats (4-0, 1-0 NCC), and Chase Clasby added another goal.
Delta topped Mississinewa 4-1. Alec Lynn scored twice for the Eagles, and Charlie May and Jared Hunt each had a goal.
GIRLS SOCCER
Burris picked up its first win of the season with a 3-2 win against Anderson. Hanna King had a hat trick to lead the Owls, and Taylor Hunt had 11 saves in the win.
GIRLS GOLF
Daleville finished first in the Mid-Eastern Conference championship after shooting 463, followed by Wapahani (471), Wes-Del (479), Blue River (484), Monroe Central (522) and Union (573). Wapahani’s Emily Rausch was the match’s overall medalist, shooting a 100. Bailey Teague led the Broncos with a 101. Robin Whitesel led the Warriors shooting a 104. Samantha Abbott shot the best score for the Vikings with a 106.
