Yorktown football falls at Shelbyville

Yorktown suffered a 52-28 loss at Shelbyville on Friday night.

Dawson Allen had 14 carries for 132 yards with a clutch touchdown run in the third quarter to keep the game close at 35-28, but the Tigers remained scoreless in the fourth as Shelbyville added 14 points to the scoreboard, thus increasing the gap. Brandt Applegate was Yorktown’s leading receiver with 79 yards, while quarterback Brogan Miller completed 11 passes for 127 yards, also adding two touchdowns to the Tigers’ score.

“It was an up-and-down game for us, and in the end we just couldn’t stop them defensively,” Tigers coach Mike Wilhelm said.

Yorktown (4-3) hosts Greenfield-Central next Friday.

Kokomo 63, Central 28

Central suffered a 35-point road loss to Kokomo (6-0).

Andre Wells led the Bearcats in rushing with 21 carries for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Jamel Barnes had six catches for 111 yards. Bearcats’ quarterback Trenton Hatfield completed 14 passes in 24 attempts.

Central (3-3) travels to Marion next Friday.

Winchester 49, Union City 6

Kiante Enis rushed for 239 yards to help the Golden Falcons get the victory against their Tri-Eastern Conference opponent.

Winchester came out strong in the first quarter with a 56-yard touchdown run by Austin Lawrence, followed by a 40-yard reception by Elias Gates to the end zone. The Golden Falcons held Union City scoreless until the fourth.

Enis led the team in rushing with 23 carries. Lawrence threw five completions for 94 yards and finished the game with 61 rushing yards of his own.

“It was a big game for us,” Golden Falcons’ coach Mike Jones said, referring to earning the conference victory. “We’re always happy to get the win.”

Winchester (5-1) hosts Shenandoah next Friday.
