WRESTLING
Yorktown went 9-0 at a two-day tournament hosted by Mt. Vernon (Posey). Christian Hunt (106), Josh Stephenson (113), Brad Laughlin (138), Cael McCormick (145), Dru Berkebile (160) and Hunter Hiestand (195) each went 9-0 for the weekend. Myron Howard went 7-0 at 182.
Yorktown won each match convincingly, not allowing any team to score more than 15 points in any individual dual. Tigers coach Trent McCormick said he was pleased with the way his team handled opening the season at a tournament more than four hours away, one that required spending a night away from home and making weight each morning.
“There are a lot of dynamics that the casual fan isn’t aware of,” Trent McCormick said.
Winchester went 5-0 at the Shenandoah Raider Duals. Sabastion Thompson, Thomas Underwood, Jagg Nunez and Dustyn Hangen each went 5-0 individually for the Golden Falcons. Blue River went 1-4 at the same event. Emeline Scott went 4-1 on the day to lead the charge for the Vikings.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Central fell 51-50 to Richmond as a Bearcat 3-pointer to win the game didn’t fall. Jayla Scaife had a monster game for the Bearcats with 40 points and 24 rebounds.
