Yorktown went 4-2 for the weekend at the Ron Sauer Duals, hosted by Fox (Missouri). The Tigers won their three Friday matches, then defeated the host school before falling to Francis Howell Central (Missouri) and Lockport Township (Illinois). The two matches were decided by a combined 20 points, and Yorktown coach Trent McCormick said both opponents are highly-ranked in a large-school class in their home state.

“This is a big measuring stick for us,” McCormick said. “We just wrestled ranked wrestler after ranked wrestler, which is what we want.”

Several Tigers went 5-1 on the weekend, including Cael McCormick, who logged his 100th career win early in his junior season. Christian Hunt (106), Brad Laughlin (138), Myron Howard (182) and Hunter Hiestand (195) joined McCormick in finishing the weekend 5-1. Trent McCormick said several of those single losses came to highly-ranked wrestlers.

“Even all of those one losses were close losses where we were in the match,” Trent McCormick said.

Delta goes undefeated: The Eagles comfortably took home the championship at the South Adams Spencer Haworth Memorial Invitational. Brock House, Sage Coy, Blake Green, Logan Melton, Jacob Gray, Sebastian Brown and Ryan George all went 4-0 on the day.

Monroe Central goes 2-3: The Golden Bears picked up victories against Randolph Southern and the Anderson “B” team at the Hagerstown invitational. Robert Ford, Colton Guy and Kaiser Phillips each went undefeated on the day. Monroe Central coach Kevin Driskill said the team had to overcome several injuries in the tournament.

“The injuries killed us today. We’re just looking to move forward from here,” Driskill said. “Our JV will have to step up.”
