SOFTBALL
Wapahani’s Sara Masters has signed with Huntington University. Masters, a senior, was ineligible last season as a transfer from Cowan. She is listed as both a catcher and corner infielder in a Huntington news release. Masters hit .396 with 11 home runs during her sophomore season at Cowan.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Burris and Blue River were tied at halftime, but the Owls picked up a 49-41 win. Jia Jones had 23 points to lead the Burris charge.
Class 2A No. 7 Wapahani pulled away to a 72-30 win against Cowan. The Raiders’ Kambrey Jolley led all scorers with 17 points, and teammate Payten Lee scored 15 points. The Blackhawks’ Carli Skinner scored 10 points in a losing effort.
Delta fell 50-47 on the road at South Adams. Micaya Richardson scored 20 points for the Eagles, and teammate Haille Workman grabbed 15 rebounds.
WRESTLING
Class 2A No. 1 Yorktown picked up a 38-18 dual win over Lebanon, ranked No. 7 in the same class. The Tigers’ Cael McCormick (ranked No. 3 at 145 pounds) wrestled up a class and defeated Kellen VanCamp (ranked fourth at 152). Yorktown’s Brad Laughlin (No. 4, 138) also wrestled up a class and won, defeating Austin Smith (No. 12, 145).
Jay County went 2-1 in a quad, defeating Woodlan 40-36 and Southern Wells 46-28, but falling to Adams Central 48-24.
Yorktown is ranked No. 7 in the latest Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association poll.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Cowan has postponed two games due to severe illness among its players. Friday’s game at Tri and Saturday’s game at Shenandoah have been rescheduled. Cowan will travel to Shenandoah on Dec. 29 for a 7:30 p.m. game. It will travel to face Tri on Jan. 27, also a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
Wapahani’s National Honor Society is asking that everyone attending Friday’s home game against Wes-Del bring a canned good in support of the community food bank.
BOYS SWIMMING
Blackford fell 120-42 to Oak Hill. The Bruins’ Zac Dudley finished second in the 50 freestyle, and teammate Stephen McGahey was second in the 100 breaststroke.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Blackford fell to Oak Hill 120-49. The Bruins’ Claire Seelen won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
