Yorktown grapplers sweep Franklin Super Six

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Despite leading at the start of the fourth quarter, Yorktown took a slim 42-40 loss to Shelbyville. The Golden Bears won the final quarter 20-12. Jenna Irelan led the Tigers with 14 points, and Emma McCord added 11.

Fort Wayne North defeated Burris 41-32. Alyssa Peters led the Owls with 15 points. Jia Jones added nine points.

BOYS SWIMMING

Burris swimming placed second in its meet against Cathedral and University. Elias Atkinson placed first in diving and 100 breaststroke and Grant Ward placed first in 100 backstroke, both setting new Burris records in those three categories. Jacob Baugh set a new Burris record in the 200 free, while Ward, Baugh, Atkinson and Eli Houser set a Burris record in 200 meter relay.

Jay County finished in first place at the Jay County Invitational. Sok Vormohr led the Patriots, winning the 200 IM and placing second in the 100 butterfly. Cody White was also a top finisher for Jay County, taking first in the 500 freestyle and second in the 200 freestyle.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Burris placed second in its meet with Cathedral and University. Mikki Wood won the 100 free with a time of 59.35, a new Burris record, while Lauren Conley won diving.

Jay County won the Jay County Invitational. Sophie Bader was a top finisher for the Patriots, taking first in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Alexandra Bader was also a double winner, taking the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Anne Vormohr grabbed the top spot in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

WRESTLING

Delta finished 3-1 at the Adams Central meet, defeating Churubusco, Ft. Wayne Dwenger and Norwell while falling to Adams Central. Brock House, Sage Coy, Jacob Gray and Scottie Evans each posted perfect 4-0 records.

Monroe Central went 4-1 at a Super Six event hosted by Arsenal Tech. Robert Ford (138), Garett Calhoun (152) and Kaiser Phillips (285) each went 5-0 for the Golden Bears.

Yorktown went 5-0 at the Franklin Community Super Six, including a victory against Holt, a school ranked in the top 10 in the large-school class in Michigan. Christian Hunt (106), Josh Stephenson (113), Remington Hiestand (126), Brad Laughlin (138), Cael McCormick (145), Hunter Hiestand (182) and Dax Hiestand (195) each went 5-0 for the day for the Tigers.
