Central pounded the ball into the post en route to a 67-57 boys basketball win at Class 2A No. 3 Frankton on Tuesday. The Bearcats shot 23-for-30 (77 percent) in the paint. Donald Allen led that charge, shooting 10-for-12 in the paint and scoring 23 total points. Andre Jones also scored inside, shooting 4-for-5 from the paint and scoring nine points for the game. The strong interior shooting helped Central go 30-for-40 (75 percent) from the field for the game.
Guard Phillip Corthen III scored 13 points for the Bearcats (10-11). The loss is the second of the season and first since Jan. 9 for Frankton (20-2). Guard Austin Compton guided the Eagles on Tuesday with 26 points.
The victory ends a four-game losing streak for Central. It was the last game of the regular season for the Bearcats, who will prepare to face Delta on March 3 in the Class 3A Central Sectional.
Cowan 66, Union 51: Entering the second half with just a three-point lead, the Blackhawks were able to pull away to a victory. Leading the way for Cowan was Trey Pierce with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. Brady Harris added 13 points of his own.
Alexandria 60, Daleville 43: Leading the way for the Broncos were Keaton Shipley and T.J. Price, each posting 13 points. Teammate Elliott Jackson had eight points.
Centerville 59, Wapahani 55: A tight-scoring game led to an overtime loss for the Raiders. Hayden Castor guided Wapahani’s offense with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Grant Thompson followed with 15 points.
