BASEBALL
Central went into the top of the seventh inning down a run, but came back to beat Marion 11-6. Sam Cavanaugh had a two-RBI single for the Bearcats in the inning to break a tie. Joey Davis had two hits for Central, including a triple, and teammate Corey Bell had two hits, including a double.
Winchester defeated Liberty Christian 9-2 on Thursday. Aaron Beatty pitched a complete game for the Golden Falcons, and teammate Michael Georgi had three hits and two stolen bases.
BOYS TRACK
Yorktown finished second at the New Castle Invite with 108 points, as Anderson won with 175. New Castle was third (68 points), Jay County was fourth (49), Connersville fifth (48) and Wapahani sixth (38). Yorktown’s Dawson Allen, Adam Lloyd, Carson Moore and Ryan Morrow combined to win the 400 relay. New Castle’s Dillon Cline won both the shot put and discus, and teammate Uriah Howe won the 100. Jay County’s Nathan Heitkamp won the long jump, and Wapahani’s Alex Herbst won the 3,200.
SOFTBALL
Central picked up its first win of the season with a 5-4 victory against Marion. Rachel Curtis went 2-for-3 for the Bearcats, scoring three runs and stealing two bases, while teammate Autumn Dishroon connected for a two-run homer. Taylor Donovan pitched a complete game, walking none.
Winchester defeated Union City 7-1. Rebecca Neville pitched a complete game, striking out six batters, and Brianna Weist had a single, double and triple.
Wapahani edged Alexandria 4-2. Kaija Aikman pitched a complete game for the Raiders, striking out nine batters. Annie Schuck had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Karli Conwell also had a double, and Amaya Smith had a triple and an RBI.
Yorktown pulled away to a 12-2 victory against Wes-Del in five innings. Kara Tucker went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for the Tigers, and teammate Katy Johnson was 3-for-4 with a double. Lexi Lumpkin hit a three-run home run for Yorktown, and Morgan Masters pitched a complete game for the Tigers.
Blackford defeated Monroe Central 12-7 on Thursday. Shannon Walker had four hits for the Bruins, including a double and a home run, and teammate Tori Eppard also connected for a home run.
GIRLS TRACK
Winchester fell to South Adams 108-15 on Thursday. The Golden Falcons’ Sarah Mallory won the long jump and took second in the 100 and 200.
