Bryce Marsh hit a key free throw in the final minute, and Wes-Del followed it up with a key defensive stop. The result was a 57-55 win against Union City that allowed the Wes-Del boys basketball team to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Marsh led his team with a total of 14 points for the game. Sam Smoot followed with 12 points, the only other Warrior to cross into double-figures.
• Yorktown 55, Alexandria 34: Caleb Morey scored 26 points to guide Yorktown to the easy win. Riley Miller was close behind with 26 points.
• Monroe Central 55, Blackford 44: The Golden Bears veered from their usual man-to-man defense, using a 1-3-1 scheme in the third quarter. The game was tied at halftime, but the defensive adjustment allowed Monroe Central to force turnovers and build a lead.
Beau Combs had 17 points for the Golden Bears, and teammate Cody Woolf scored 14. Dustin Brown had seven points and 10 rebounds for Monroe Central.
Joel Sharp led Blackford with 19 points, and teammate Austin Felver scored 12 points on four 3-pointers.
• Burris 56, South Adams 53: Ryan Morey led the Owls with 21 points. Alex Lang had 10 points. After falling behind, Burris surged forward in the third quarter to win it.
• Heritage Hall 56, Colonial Christian 33: Grant Prewitt led the Patriots with 14 points. Drew Bond added nine points. Both pulled down five rebounds on the night. Heritage Hall is undefeated, moving to 5-0 with Tuesday’s win.
